Birth Story: Tristan: Condensed

Right off the bat, I ended up with a repeat c-section. This entry may be jumbled a bit.

Basic stats on Tristan Skye Vincent.

9lbs, 3oz
APGAR scores 9 and 9
21″ long
Born at 2:59a on Oct 2nd, 2009

Long story short, after nine and half hours, I stayed at 4cm. He never decended at all into the birth canal. I started to gush blood, one memorable clot was the size of a loaf of bread. Also the contractions were 2min apart/lasting 2min and were sheer agony. My cervix wouldn’t change.

We are still waiting on the pathology report on the placenta. It was not a uterine rupture. Also, the umbilical cord had a knot firmly in it. We don’t know what caused the bleeding to be so severe.

The section itself went very well, everyone so far has respected our wishes when it comes to the baby, he is a very good nursling.

The choice to NOT circumcise our son was really cemented in Keith’s head when he stayed with out newest son in the nursery for blood sugar stick, when he witnessed two circumcisions being done while the OB referred to the newborn babies as “its”.

My twin sister ended up being a fantastic support person for me at the hospital as was my boyfriend who already, without asking, changes all the diapers, had stood up for me with medical staff, helped me get onto solid foods, etc.

I actually haven’t slept, too much going on for me emotionally/physically.

So yeah feel free to ask any questions!

Aw, it sucks that you didn’t get the VBAC you wanted, but I’m glad you and Tristan are doing good otherwise! “Tristan Skye” is an awesome name, by the way. :)

Hi Sarah! I did leave some comments earlier but I guess they got lost in the ether. I think I can remember the gist of what I said, though… I’m sure you’re relieved that the birth process is finally over. I hope you’re feeling happy, too. You endured so much to get to this day! But you have your baby now, and that’s what matters. I’m glad you’re both okay, and *congratulations*!

Oh Sarah, you must be exhausted. Reading your tweets was heartbreaking… I remember that pain SO vividly, I really felt for you. I’m so sorry that Tristan never dropped so that you could have him naturally, and wow, holy clots! It sounds like a c-section was the best thing for both of you.

And yay for nursing and supportive sis & boyfriend! Has Danny seen his new baby brother yet? Where is Danny anyway? If you don’t mind me asking, LOL.

Take care and recovery quickly! *hugs*

Congrats on your new addition. I’m am so proud of your for standing up for yourself and the health of your baby. I am even prouder that you were able to recognize that while things may not have gone the way you wanted, ultimately, the most important thing is that you baby arrived healthy and without problems. You are such a strong woman and I hope that you go on to help other women understand the importance of knowing their rights when it comes to pregnancy. Looks like you have a great future as a Birth Consultant.

First of all, congratulations! Welcome to the world, Tristan!

Now, I just want to also add that I’m so sorry that things didn’t work out according to plan. I know that you wanted so badly to have a natural birth. However, I’m glad that you were able to do what was best at the last minute. It stinks that it didn’t go the way you wanted, but I’m glad that everyone is okay. I’m glad that everyone around you has been so supportive of you, hun. I hope to hear from you and see some photos soon!! :)

Congrats! I am sorry that you were unable to have the VBAC, I had to have a c-section, and unfortunately no hospital where I like even offers the chance for a VBAC. I had this perfect pregnancy idea, boy did it go sooo different. The best advice I can give you about c-sections: Move! lol, it hurts so much more if you sit in bed/lounge. You will heal a lot quicker as well, and drink plenty of water, it helps to keep you flushed out so you don’t risk infection.

Congrats!! Definitely get your rest while you still can!!

Congrats dear! My best to you and your wonderful family!

I’m overjoyed that you and the baby made it through everything safely. Sounds like things went crazy body-wise and I think there are fewer things scarier than when your body does things against the norm. I’m so glad you are both okay.

That said, I’m hoping pics of adorable babeh toes are forthcoming!

  • Fought for a VBAC and lost
"She proceeded to make the comment “I know the situation, and because of that I’m not feeling sympathetic” in reference to Sarah leaving the hospital AMA and not accepting a repeat c-section previously, and to the massive amounts of pain she was in."
  • Vent - VBAC Scare Tactics
"He then recanted and said, “well maybe it’s not a law, but I’ll tell you NO hospital will ALLOW you to VBAC without it”. Right ok, so first fear tactic and lie."
  • I had TWO c-sections
"It’s hard because sometimes I almost feel shame or guilt that BOTH of my c-sections were medically needed."
  • Who Am I?
"I went from a victim, a weak worthless nothing to a MOTHER. I went from being a punching bag to a protector and then lost myself yet again."
