This, That, and The Other Thing

02/12/10

Just to get it out of my head (as much as I can anyway) I appreciate more than I could ever say all the supportive comments in my previous entry, Being Supported in Natural Parenting.

I was however, dismayed to see that my tiny mention of us not doing vaccinations caused some individuals to take that and run with it. That was NOT the point of that entry at all and it really made me want to not post such personal things anymore. Thankfully after tweeting about it, so many of you offered your ears / comments / tweets to me so I don’t take it so personally!

I am in general still feeling raw and exposed in some ways. Hard to believe it would have been my 11yr anniversary with Daniel’s bio-dad this week! I do think in some ways, everything happens for a reason and comparing how I felt THEN to how I feel NOW… well suffice to say having Keith in our lives has show us what the word “family” really means.

Now onto other things…

Weight Watchers
So both the boyfriend and I started Weight Watchers (they have a breastfeeding option so I don’t have any supply issues yay!) this past Sunday. He’s never tried to change his eating habits before and since meeting him (including the pregnancy/after the baby) I’ve gained freaking 50lbs! Considering I was already on the “thicker” side of things already, I just feel so uncomfortable in my skin!

So first week is almost done with and if the peek at the scale today is any indication, I’ve lost around 8lbs! I will post some recipes that are WW friendly but that are still in line with “whole” foods, filling foods, and overall super fantastic delicious foods. For example I’ve made a wonderful turkey chili, which I need to make again tonight because Daniel requested it, I also made a veggie lasagna, and a great chicken and penne dish, just to name a few.

If any of you are also doing WW, let me know! Share your favorite WW links!

Photography
In other awesome news, I purchased the Nikon D90, haven’t really used it much but so far I love what I see! The feel is just great, the camera overall is much better in low light situations, and the flesh tones are spot on! There are so many new features in comparison to my D50 that I need to find some time to read the manual (oh yes… RTFM always!). I am loving that it has a self-cleaning sensor as I’m so lazy when it comes to doing that.

iPhone
I also purchased for myself, the 16GB white iPhone! The first few hours I was scared to touch it and left it in its box. I have a decent amount of apps so far (should probably do a post on that!) but always looking for new ones as the app store is just confusing and I am tired of all the “adult themed” apps cluttering things up. I also got a new phone number so if you need/want it, let me know!

ICAN
This upcoming Sunday is not only Valentine’s Day but I am going to try and go to my first ICAN meeting. I still have so many unresolved emotional (and physical) issues surrounding Tristan’s birth and the topic is supposed to be about traumatic births. How perfect for me right?

“Anyone want to be linked up on my exit page? I need some new reads!” Me me meeee. :P

Sorry about all the vax comments. It is pretty lame that people have to hone in on one small portion of the post.

I can’t wait to see pictures with the new camera! :D

I’ll have to go back and read the comments you got! Vaccinations were also mentioned in my entry and I didn’t get a peep about it! It sounds like you’ve got your life set on a positive path… keep at it :-)

Sorry you got so much flack about your vax choices. I thought your post was rather lovely. I also want to cosign on the iphone love. I got one for the holidays and I’m now in love. Just think, I’m actually kind of a late adopter when it comes to technology so it’s kind of amazing that I got a smart phone like this so “soon.”

Oh, and sure I wouldn’t mind being on your exit page as a new read.

I used to do WW and was very successful on it in the past. I hope that you enjoy it. Let us know how it goes! I still sometimes use WW recipes that are vegan just because they are so yummy. I’ll have to put a couple up sometime.

I am looking forward to some new pictures with your new camera! How exciting! I am super jealous! And a new ipod too? My goodness! Lucky!

I used to be on your links page but I don’t seem to be there anymore. You are on mine! :)

It is so exciting to go to your first ICAN meeting. For me since there was no chapter in my area, I started one, so I have always been the one holding meetings anxious if anyone would come!
You will have a good time, especially since you have Gina. I am so totally jealous…can ya tell?

I got the D3000 last night and I left it in the box overnight because I was scared of it. I really broke it out this morning once I got up and the toddler wasn’t running through the house like a madman… LOL

Great post.. like always

@Keeshia Linked! Thank you for the support! I hope to get some photographic inspiration soon, it’s ridiculous to have this awesome camera just sitting there lol.

@Chrystal I don’t understand how some blogs can mention no-vax and get no negative responses and others mention it and it becomes a negative situation. Thank you for your comment!

@NavelgazingBajan OH yay for your iPhone! I love mine, even texting is more fun! Added you to my links page!

@ TheFeministBreeder I’m excited! You’ll get to meet the uber squish too lol.

@Michelle Potter thank you so much!!

@Caity & @Damita I did WW a couple of years ago and had great success on it, so I’m an old pro lol. I find it very easy to do!

@Caity I will put you on the links page! Oh I seriously need some photographic inspiration these days, driving me nuts. Oh and it’s the iPhone teehee.

@Danielle I am really excited about, it will be nice to be around like-minded people! OMGOSH I am SO thrilled you chose that camera! If you have ANY questions, just ask!!

I think some readers reacted strongly because when you said “”…rarely do I encounter anyone who DOES vax (especially “on schedule”) who has done ANY actual research into the subject.” it sounded insulting, like people who vaccinate are uninformed and ignorant. That phrasing makes people want to prove to you that research CAN support vaxing… hence all the comments about that.

But I understand what you mean. You meant that the people you encounter in your area who vaccinate do it because you are “supposed to…” but you weren’t saying that there aren’t people who might vaccinate from a more informed place… like me. :) I feel like I researched and was OK with the risks. No one wants it implied that they’re ignorant, whether they decide to vaccinate or not… it’s tough because with these parenting topics, phrasing something even slightly wrong can make people get defensive. Hey, it happens. Don’t worry.

See you hit the nail on the head! I had meant in a personal sense, I’ve never encountered anyone who did any research about vax (or anything parenting related actually). Everyone I know, including my twin sister, vax, formula feeds, disposable diaper, spanks, etc. Because it’s “the way things are done” or “my doctor told me to”.

I don’t spend much, if any, part of my day reflecting on those who choose to vaccinate. I get it. During my pregnancy with Danny I was SOOO pro-vax which is ironic considering that he (and Tristan) are NOT vaccinated.

Thank you for putting into words what my brain couldn’t!!
