Car Seat
Thank you everyone for your comments on my last entry. A highchair isn’t a major concern like the car seat, I know there is used car seats, but I was told that car seats should always be purchased new because you have no way of telling if a used one was involved in a car accident, even a minor car accident. I think that is the only item that is recommended people buy new because of that.
As for public aid, WIC, etc, I don’t qualify. I live with my father and sister who make decent money, and since they go by household, I am WAY above limits. If I was living on my own, then I would qualify. For a household of 4, you need to have a take home income of around 3grand or less. Well my family gets much more than that. They aren’t rich by a long shot, but we aren’t poor enough for public aid. I was on WIC during my pregnancy, but that was easy because it was me and Matt, and our income was around $800 if LUCKY a month. If in the future I am able to afford my own place, I will very much try for public assistance.
I finally got ahold of Matt last night, to see if he will send any child support. He said he would try to send $200, which is $200 less than we had agreed upon, and that is not including the $25 he took from my bank account or the $65 he owes my sister for the bus ticket, but it will pay for a car seat and the phone bill. I will take what I can get at the moment heh.
This post is over a year old which means the content may be outdated or no longer accurate.
when i lived with my parents i qualified. and they were both working. let’s just say they were both making over $40,000 a year. especially my mom. she was making quite a bit more then that. and i got both wic and public aid.
Sarah, check again on that WIC and public assistance. Because you are living with family and because you are essentially 1/3 of the household and not supported by them because of being an adult with a child you would qualify. They will see it as your expenses would be 1/3 of all the household expenses … regardless of their income I do believe you would get some if not all assistance!
Maybe you should go to http://www.fns.usda.gov/fsp/ and see if you could possibly qualify for food stamps. They calculate things differently than WIC and consider other factors.
Hopefully things will turn around for you soon!
I agree with Jenn totally there is no reason that your (You and Matt’s) child should soley be your responsibility. He needs a swift kick in the @$$. And i think that the court system can definately do that.
yahhh go new w/ car seats.. because they can normally only survive *safely* one accident.
I agree with Barb about checking again about the WIC. When I became pregnant with my first I was still living with my parents and Chris was living there too, working at Wal-Mart. Anyway I qualified for WIC……….Then when we moved in with his Aunt and Uncle I received food stamps and WIC……..It may be different though since I was pregnant and after all this was 10 years ago, things may have changed slightly……Let us know if you find out anything!
