ER Visit

August 1st 2009 / 1 minute to read

Last night I got yet another migraine (it’s been over a month since my last one!!) that was very intense, went to the ER, they sent me up to Labor and Delivery considering I am 32 weeks now. It was over an hour before I was given any meds however the on call doctor was amazing. She was an older woman and was simply great. The nurse however, not so much, I’ve had her before and she always acts shocked, “you’re circ’ing right?” OF COURSE NOT! *cue shocked look*. Anyway, I was given two drugs, the first, had a bit of a reaction to it (started having involuntary jitters), the second was generally effective. They did a quick ultrasound, baby is heads down! That’s right! The baby is positioned normally! Great news for my VBAC wanting self! Ok I am going to lay down and rest some more.

That sucks you had to go to the ER, especially if they are anything like they are around here (2+ hour waits no matter how crowded they are). Good the medicine helped though!

I got in very quickly, it’s weird actually with this particular hospital, when at 12wks pregnant I developed a bleed, I had to wait over an hour to even get a room, yet generally with migraines I am taken care of RIGHT AWAY. They had to wait to give me pain meds due to needing to test my urine and blood first because of how far along I am, even though I have a history with this hospital and in general, of chronic migraines.

I am still VERY worn out, and I feel like my head is bruised.

Wow, I’m sorry you had such a horrid headache and had to go to the ER. I hope that you are feeling better now. I’m glad the baby is okay and everything is looking great.

@Damita, I have so many things stacked against me in the migraine area. It’s hereditary, I’m female, I’m a twin, and I’m pregnant. All which can increase the chance of having migraines from 30% to over 65%!

@Caity, I am finally TODAY after sleeping through Saturday, feeling semi normalish again.

Caity

Oh, I’m so glad you are feeling better!!

I’m so glad the baby isn’t breech! That should definitely help your VBAC go nice and easy once the time comes. It is a shame about the migraines though. I’m glad that they were able to get you on an appropriate medication to help soothe it.

Migraines are horrible. I can’t imagine dealing with one bad enogh to snd me to the ER. I’m glad you and the baby are fine.

@Caity, thank you!

@Damita, I think in part, it’s why I’m happy I keep having boys because the female side of our family is pre-disposed to the migraines.

@Erin, I was paranoid that the baby was transverse just due to where I felt his movements, the last time (before I got pregnant with this baby) I had to go to the ER for a migraine was when I was 17 years old!

@Angel, migraines are just… pain. Anyone who compares them to a headache has NEVER had a migraine. I get so angry at people who try to tell me how to manage them or “see a doctor about that”. Rawr.
