It’s My Birthday

October 17th 2014 / 1 minute to read

I am now 33 years old. To put that in some sort of context, I started blogging when I was 19 years old and purchased OneStarryNight.com right after I turned 20 (it’ll be 13 in a few weeks!).

I struggle so much with my birthday. It’s just a rough time for me emotionally. Not so much about getting older but just getting acknowledged I suppose? That I exist? I have issues.

This year is a bit harder than past years because we’re not able to celebrate at all. All of our extra money went towards the vet for the cats.

So no gifts, no restaurant (which is hard in general anyway since I’m gluten intolerant), no dessert (again… gluten), my husband works, nothing “special” to make this day stand out from all the rest.

I am trying so hard to not spend the day wallowing and crying, because that’s pretty much what I do on my birthday.

So today my goal is just to find a way to see the positive.

What a positive post I know!

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
I’m sorry your birthday is and has been a let-down in the past. My birthday falls during a national holiday weekend every year so I’ve spent countless years having a party of one, lol, because everyone else has plans to go somewhere. It used to really hurt my feelings, but the older I get, the less it bothers me. I just try to treat myself special on my birthday by taking time to relax, pamper myself with a face mask and a mag, maybe get myself a coffee, and reflect on how lucky I am to have the people I have in my life and to have made it to the age I’ve just turned. I wish you a very happy birthday and an even better 33rd year! <3 Much love!

Thank you! My birthday (well day after) ended up not sucking, even got some new clothes thanks to my husband (and landing on an awesome sale LOL).

It’s just really weird being a twin but celebrating “on my own”. Does that make sense?

Last year of my “early thirties”!

PS: I have a friend whose birthday is NEW YEAR’S EVE! How bad would that suck?! She said she’s literally never had a birthday party because everyone always already has plans! I just remembered that!

Dude… that’s rough!!!

You’re not 55. :)
Happy birthday!

HAHAHA RIGHT! It goes so fast though, I’ll be 55 and wondering where the time went!

Sorry it’s such a struggle and that I’m a day late. Since I’ve been married with children I can count on one hand how many times my birthday was actually “celebrated”. Typically I make the dinner I want, and the dessert (we are not into a traditional cake thing), occasionally I will receive a card from my husband . I think I was disappointed because I felt as if I acknowledged their day more. In reality I did the same for them by making their favorite dinner and dessert and gave them a day of whatever they wanted which was usually to do something without me. LOL I thought about it for a bit and decided that while it’d be great if one of them cooked me dinner and dessert it would probably not be edible! LOL I don’t know what changed but now days I’m good with the simplicity of a hand made card, being serenaded (even if it means my son chooses an Eminem song) or a simple phone call . Perhaps it’ll get easier for you too. I hope so anyway. In the mean time HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I hope so! My kids made me cards… Danny put a Thor sticker on mine and drew a heart around it LOL because he knows I love me some Thor!
