My Experience with Salon M in Niles IL

February 28th 2013 / 3 minutes to read

In 2012 I had decided to get my hair dyed PURPLE! I loved it but ended up having a huge problem with the salon / salon owner at the time which I blogged about, Why I Had to Fire My Hair Stylist.

That was back in September of 2012 when my hair got all sorts of messed up. It absolutely ruined my self-esteem and I ate my feelings, so much so that I’ve gained back 40lbs I had lost. Fun.

So fast forward to TODAY when I got so angry and sad and just plain fed up with my hair that I called Salon M in Niles IL. I had been there for a hair cut back in 2011 and had liked them so I thought I would try them out for my hair fiasco! I had also noticed on their website that they also did manicures and pedicures, both of which I was in desperate need of since I let things go in that area since I’ve been so sick lately with bronchitis.

I call and Lucy (who ended up doing my hair) answered and right away I felt comfortable because she started asking questions about my current hair status, color and what I wanted and was willing to do. I thought that was super awesome because I was scared that I’d walk in and be told it would cost $600 to even start to fix my color, thankfully that wasn’t the case!

She talked to me about what I wanted and was completely receptive to me handing my phone over with the Pinterest app for my hair board.

Right away she started applying color and foils with confidence, which was great because I was so scared to end up with bad hair again. While my color processed, I had my pedicure done by Adrianna and it was really nice not being in a super large and noisy nail salon for once and having just that super great attention to detail.

After my toes and feet were taken care of, I then had my color rinsed out and Lucy then cut my hair while keeping the length I’ve worked so hard to grow out, I really appreciated that. She explained each product she was using and WHY she was using them. She also asked me how I normally styled my hair (I don’t… a frizz serum and that’s it) and kept that in mind WHILE she cut my hair so I don’t have a cut that ONLY looks good when styled but will look good in it’s more natural wavy state.

Once my hair was totally completed, I got my nails done by Adrianna and it’s so lovely having shaped nails and cuticles that look nice and tidy again!

Here are some quick photos from my phone, the photos with the flash show the color more accurately!

This one is no flash but it shows the cut but the color is much more accurate in the flash photos even if I look like a ghost!

Overall I’m very pleased with my experience and am thrilled to find a good quality salon at affordable pricing as well!

Looks great! I’m glad you found a salon you can trust.

Thank you! It really, as silly as it sounds, has really taken a load of stress off of me!

LOVE both your hair color and cut and your fabulous nails!!! OMG I haven’t had my hair done in over a year….and I stress about the time it’s going to take sitting there to have color and cut….but now you’ve motivated me to get something done soon….gotta get away from ponytail hair!!!

Thank you! OHHHH yes! I always realize it’s time when I can’t remember when my hair was NOT last in a ponytail LOL!

That’s wonderful news! I’m glad you found such a nice place. It sounds like you had a great experience, and your hair looks really cute!

Thank you so much! I’m so thrilled! There was no pressure to go shorter, no pressure to purchase product… it was SUCH a change from the previous place. So much more professional and clean!

Amanda

I love how fresh and different you look. I’ve never seen your hair that light! (aside from the horrible “lets bleach test a big spot to see how well the purple comes out” fiasco) I really like it!

Thank you! I went blondeish back in 2003 but it was much different from this. I’ll have to see if I have any photos during that time period.

What’s even more awesome is she said I can come back at the start of Summer to go even LIGHTER! SO excited by that!

Sarah,

Your hair looks gorgeous! I am so happy that you got a cut that makes you feel good again. You are beautiful inside and out… please don’t ever forget that. :)

Hugs,
Melissa

Aww thank you. My self esteem has really taken a major hit since September and I am only now starting to come out of it. Sucks!

Looks fantastic but I definitely miss the purple!

Reply to Amanda Jillian

I miss the purple too sometimes because the ONE time (out of the what… FOUR? times I had it done?) it was done right, I loved it. However it just wasn’t worth it.

I LOVE my new hair though, makes my eyes pop a bit!

You just need to do a major road trip to go to my salon LOL!
