There And Back Again

November 21st 2006 / 2 minutes to read

Firstly, Imagine is updated.

When I got home yesterday I came home to find a box from one of my bestest friends (MJ). Enclosed was the Goddess Tarot Deck and an awesome pair of socks she knitted for me (yes I am wearing them now and they are beyond comfy I am thrilled)!

I then took Daniel to the park for quite awhile, came home, had dinner, and then I went over to my naughtytastic friend’s house for a bit to hang out. It was really nice. We drank coffee, I ate her pomegranate seeds, I fixed parts of her computer, and her teenage son whooped my ass in Halo.

Today, my son and I will be going to the library so he can play with the trains and because I have a ton of photography and photoshop books on hold. First thing I did this morning was buy the Daughtry album on iTunes! I was overjoyed to see that only on iTunes was there a bonus track if you bought the whole album (which I did naturally). I rarely buy music anymore but I must support him because I love him! In very naughty ways! I am so excited because tomorrow he will be performing on Regis and Kelly!

Oh I almost forgot! I signed up and now have a Zooomr account. It’s sort of like flickr but has some niftyness of its own.

For all the photographers out there, I have a few questions.

  • Nikon or Canon? (tell me if other!)
  • Where do you buy your equipment? (share websites if possible)
  • Which filters (if any) do you have?
  • Which lenses (if any and if it’s an slr camera) do you have?
  • What type of camera bag do you have?
  • How often do you shoot?
  • Raw or JPG?
  • What accessories do you have? (ex: tripod, spare battery, extra memory, cleaner)
  • What is on your photography wish list?
  • Do you feel that it is easier for men to be a street photographer than it is for a woman?

I am still debating over making lasagna for thanksgiving, maybe I should make chili and cornbread? Decisions, decisions.

This post is over a year old which means the content may be outdated or no longer accurate.

I have a Canon Powershot ELPH SD550 7.1MP and I love, love, love it! It’s a step up from amateur status, which was for me a Kodak EasyShare 3.2MP. I will never go back to a Kodak. Canon all the way. You can check out different camera groups on Flickr. I have a few listed in my groups on my profile. So you can see how the photos will turn out.

I recently got my camera and printer bundle from the Walmart.com sale for $288. It was an amazing sale! You can check out my photos on Flickr, some of the newest ones are from the Canon. It’s all in the EXIF data.

So far in accessories I only have two memory cards, 56MB and 128MB and a Samsonite camera bag. I’m sure once I’m more familiar with my camera I’ll get more accessories.

Canon. Prior to the camera I just bought, I’d been using a small Nikon L1 for about a year, which I enjoyed but outgrew quickly. I just bought a Digital Rebel XTi kit, and it’s phenomonal, although I’m still getting used to using a Digital SLR.  In any case, Canon is much more user friendly, at least in my opinion.

I’ve bought both my cameras at electronics stores. Best Buy is where I got my Rebel.

No filters, yet. And no bag yet for the Rebel. The bag I use for my L1 is a Samsonite (like on Dumb and Dumber, hah!).

I shoot every day, almost. I haven’t been as consistent cause I work full-time now, but I usually take at least a few shots of my son every day. He thinks I’m the paparazzi ;)

Still deciding between Raw & Jpeg. Leaning more towards Raw.

No accessories yet, but I’m looking forward to it!

A million things on my wish list. A good macro lens (uncdecided on which) a case, a tripod, etc…

In some ways I do think it’s easier for men, but I think if women didnt have any reason to be uncomfortable on the streets than obviously it would be different. Men, even if they are intimidated, often don’t show it the way women do. And that works to their advantage.

My digital camera and my computer setup have been presents from my son. I got his hand-me downs with the computer setup you might say. It was a kit that he assembled. He updated his and gave me his old computer equipment, but, the camera and printer are new.

The camera is one of those FujiFilm ditital cameras, the Finepix S5100. It has an attached zoom lens and can be used either as a P&S or I can use the manual settings. It looks like a 35 mm SLR.

My printer/scanner/coppier is the Cannon Pixma MP450.

I use a regular leather pocketbook for the camera as not to draw attention to it being a camera. People just wonder why I carry two pocketbooks on some occassions….LOL…

For some reason some of my friends wish that they had a son like mine who lavished me with all of these things to keep me busy in my senior citizens years.

Sorry ladies, he’s not single anymore…. He just got married and I took candid photos of same with the digital camera he gave me, and they’re on my blog….. First wedding I ever photographed….

I’ve taken some photo courses over the years and what I learned that it isn’t the camera, but, the person behind the camera that makes those great photos and the brand name isn’t that important…. Knowing your camera and what it can do and making it do same is what is really important.

I did sports game action photography in the past with three 35 mm SLR manual operating camera bodies with about a dozen interchangable lenses. Reasons I took the photo courses was to learn how to do same… Used a tripod when doing portrait photography.

Santa can bring me a backup digital camera, but, I think my son has a new clothes washer and dryer in mind instead for this year…

Forgot to say that my old 35 mm SLR’s and zoom lenses were Ricoh made. I had a relative that worked for Ricoh and made employee purchases….. (Just corrected my blog addy.)
