Wool or Cotton?

Would wool or cotton be better for a rug? (for me to knit) If wool, why? If cotton, why? (and where the heck is chunky cotton yarn?)

:O Knitting a rug.. interesting. I would imagine wool would be easiest, so long as it was that nice softish kind of wool… :)
